Description

## DuckDB 1.5.2 with built in UI on Ubuntu 24.04 by cloudimg

Production ready DuckDB 1.5.2, the in process analytical database, paired with its built in web UI on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS (Noble Numbat) and packaged for Microsoft Azure by cloudimg. DuckDB is the analytical SQL engine that runs inside your application and reads Parquet, CSV, JSON, Iceberg and Delta Lake tables directly with no extract or load step. The 1.5 series ships the integrated DuckDB UI as a first class web client so you can write SQL, browse schema, render charts and import files without ever leaving the browser.

Why Choose cloudimg?

* 24/7 Expert Support with guaranteed 24 hour response for all requests and one hour average for critical issues. Contact support@cloudimg.co.uk

* Production Ready from Launch Pre configured, security patched, and validated before publication

* Azure Native Integration Built with Azure Linux Agent, cloud init, and Gen2 Hyper V support

* Per VM Credential Generation UI basic auth password generated uniquely at first boot and written to /stage/scripts/duckdb-credentials.log. No two virtual machines ever share a password and no password is baked into the image

What is Included

* DuckDB 1.5.2 CLI binary at /usr/local/bin/duckdb (official linux amd64 release tarball, SHA256 verified at install time)

* DuckDB UI extension pre fetched and warmed into the persistent database so the first customer boot has zero outbound dependencies on community.duckdb.org

* duckdb ui systemd service running as the duckdb system user, holding the persistent database open and serving the UI on 127.0.0.1:4213

* nginx 1.24 acting as the reverse proxy on port 80 with HTTP basic auth and WebSocket upgrade support for live query results

* duckdb firstboot systemd oneshot that rotates the basic auth password on first customer boot and writes credentials to /stage/scripts/duckdb-credentials.log mode 0600

* Persistent database file at /var/lib/duckdb/main.duckdb owned by the duckdb system user

* Python 3.12 venv at /opt/duckdb-venv with the duckdb Python module pinned to 1.5.2 for the long lived UI server wrapper

* Ubuntu 24.04 LTS base with latest security patches applied at build time

DuckDB UI

The UI ships in the box from DuckDB 1.2 onwards and reached production polish in the 1.5 series. It is a single page web app served directly by the DuckDB process, with a SQL editor, schema browser, table viewer, query plan visualiser, and a notebook style cell layout for chained queries. Files dropped into the upload area become attached tables instantly. CSV, Parquet, JSON, Excel and Arrow formats are all supported.

Use Cases

* Ad hoc analytics over Parquet, CSV and JSON sitting on Azure Blob Storage or local disk

* Data engineering smoke tests and prototyping before promoting queries to a warehouse

* Embedded analytics for back office tools where a separate Postgres or warehouse is overkill

* Cost control point for Snowflake or BigQuery workloads where most queries scan a single dataset

* Notebook style analytics replacement when you want SQL first and not Python first

* Iceberg or Delta Lake table exploration without standing up Spark or Trino
