iPerf3 on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS by cloudimg. A ready-to-run network throughput server on TCP/UDP 5201 for measuring real bandwidth to an Azure region, running as a hardened systemd service. 24/7 expert support.
## iPerf3 on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS by cloudimg
iPerf3 is the de-facto open-source tool for actively measuring the maximum achievable bandwidth on IP networks. This cloudimg image runs iPerf3 as a hardened systemd service listening on TCP/UDP 5201, so you can spin up a throughput server in any Azure region and measure real TCP and UDP performance from your clients, data centres or other clouds. The server runs under a dedicated unprivileged user and writes a per-VM details file on first boot. Backed by 24/7 expert support.
Ready to Test in Seconds
Launch the VM, open TCP/UDP 5201 in the NSG, and run an iperf3 client against the public IP - no configuration required. The first boot writes the server IP, port and ready-to-paste client commands to a details file.
Hardened Service
iPerf3 runs under a dedicated unprivileged system user with systemd sandboxing (NoNewPrivileges, ProtectSystem, PrivateTmp). iPerf3 has no built-in authentication, so restrict inbound 5201 in your NSG to the networks you test from.
