## Umbraco on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS

Umbraco is a flexible, friendly open source content management system built on ASP.NET Core and .NET. It gives content editors a clean, modern backoffice for building pages, document types, templates and media, and gives developers a full Model View Controller and API surface for building sites and applications. Built and maintained by cloudimg on a hardened, fully patched Ubuntu 24.04 LTS base, running Umbraco 17.5.3 on the .NET 10 runtime under Kestrel behind nginx, with an embedded SQLite database so the appliance is complete on its own with no separate database server.

A unique administrator account is created on the first boot of every VM using a per VM secret. Umbraco ships no default login, and the cloudimg image goes further: the captured image contains no database at all, and no known or blank credential authenticates. The backoffice is served over HTTPS with a per VM self signed certificate because its modern login uses browser cryptography that only works in a secure context. Sign in at /umbraco with the login from /root/umbraco-credentials.txt to build pages, document types, templates and media, then publish your site.

The SQLite database, the media library and the ASP.NET Core DataProtection keyring all live on a single dedicated managed data disk, so your content stays off the operating system disk and rides with the VM. Kestrel is bound to 127.0.0.1 only; nginx is the only public listener, serving the site on port 80 and the backoffice on port 443. An unauthenticated /healthz endpoint is provided for load balancer probes. For production, replace the self signed certificate with your own domain certificate, or move to SQL Server for larger sites.
