Overview
A single node event streaming appliance that combines the Apache Kafka broker with Karapace, the open source schema registry and Kafka REST proxy. Kafka handles durable publish and subscribe messaging, Karapace adds schema governance and an HTTP path for producing and consuming, so applications can work with Kafka over plain REST or with strongly typed Avro, JSON and Protobuf schemas.
Why the cloudimg image
cloudimg ships Kafka and Karapace hardened and fully patched, wired together and ready on first boot. The broker runs KRaft with no ZooKeeper, a single per boot password protects both the SASL broker and the registry and REST endpoints, the schema registry and REST proxy sit behind an authenticated gateway rather than open to the world, and the image is backed by 24/7 support.
