Overview
DAViCal is a free, open source server for shared calendars and contacts that implements the CalDAV and CardDAV standards, so calendars, address books, to do lists and journal entries live on infrastructure you control and synchronise to any standards compliant client, including Mozilla Thunderbird, Apple Calendar and Contacts, GNOME Evolution, iOS and the DAVx5 app on Android. It supports multiple users and groups, fine grained access control for sharing and delegating collections, free/busy scheduling and the auto discovery well known URLs so clients configure themselves from a single server address.
It suits teams, families and organisations that want a private, self hosted alternative to hosted calendar and contact services, keeping their schedule and contact data off third party platforms.
Why the cloudimg image
cloudimg delivers DAViCal fully installed and configured as a PHP application on Apache with a PostgreSQL backend, so the web admin console and the CalDAV and CardDAV endpoint answer within minutes of launch. On first boot every instance mints its own administrator password, its own demo user password and fresh PostgreSQL role passwords, written to a file only root can read, so no default or shared login ships in the image. A ready to use demo user with a sample calendar and address book is included so a fresh instance shows real content immediately, and every deployment is paired with a step by step deploy guide and backed by 24/7 support.
