Overview

Headwind MDM is an open source Mobile Device Management server for Android. It gives you one admin console and a REST API to enrol company devices, push configurations, applications and policies over the air, group devices and monitor the state of your estate. It is a self hosted alternative to proprietary MDM services, with full source code access and no vendor lock in.

Why the cloudimg image

The upstream server seeds a default administrator account and a static device shared secret when it first creates its database. This image replaces the administrator password, the device shared secret and the database password with unique random values on the first boot of every VM, stores them in a root only file, and refuses every console route until that replacement has been completed and verified, so the default is never reachable over the network. The database and your uploaded application files live on a dedicated, independently resizable data volume, and a paired deploy guide plus 24/7 cloudimg support cover you from first sign in to a production fleet.

Common uses

  • Manage a corporate Android phone and tablet fleet from one console
  • Push configurations and app updates to kiosk and single purpose devices
  • Provision field workforce devices with a consistent app and policy set
