Ready-to-Run Pipeline
A sample pipeline at /etc/otelcol-contrib/config.yaml: a hostmetrics receiver (cpu/memory/disk/filesystem/load every 10s) plus an otlp receiver (gRPC 127.0.0.1:4317, HTTP 127.0.0.1:4318), with memory_limiter, resourcedetection and batch processors, exporting to a debug logger and a Prometheus exporter on 127.0.0.1:8889. The health_check extension answers on 127.0.0.1:13133 and zPages on 127.0.0.1:55679.
Loopback by Default
Every endpoint binds to 127.0.0.1 only, so no inbound application port is required beyond SSH. Point your OpenTelemetry SDK at the loopback OTLP endpoints to push your own telemetry, then forward to any OTLP/Prometheus backend (Grafana, Jaeger, Tempo, Honeycomb, Datadog and more) by editing the config.
