Ubuntu 26.04 LTS on 64-bit Arm, a free long term support Linux base, hardened and patched for Arm cloud instances.
Ubuntu 26.04 LTS (Resolute Raccoon) is the current long term support release of the Ubuntu Linux distribution, with a modern kernel, toolchain and package set and standard security maintenance to 29 May 2031. This is the native 64-bit Arm (AArch64) build, made to run on Azure Arm virtual machine sizes such as the Cobalt class Dpsv6 and Dplsv6 families, where the same workloads often cost less to run than on x86 for the same performance. It gives you a stable, modern foundation for application hosting, container platforms and cloud native workloads on Arm.
There is no application layered on top: the operating system is the product. This image is a clean, fully patched Ubuntu 26.04 LTS Arm foundation to build your own services on, with no subscription, no licence key and no default credential.
The cloudimg image is a hardened Ubuntu 26.04 LTS Arm base with every available security update applied at build time, phased updates included, and unattended security updates armed and proven with a real dry run, so instances keep patching themselves. Only the running kernel ships; superseded kernels are purged before capture. No credential is baked in: access is by the SSH key you choose at launch, and the machine identity and SSH host keys are regenerated uniquely on every instance, so no two machines share a secret. Password login is disabled, root password login is off, AppArmor stays enforcing, link local name resolution is pinned off, and exactly one port listens for off box traffic: TCP 22 for SSH. A paired deployment guide tested against the exact image is included, and every instance is backed by 24/7 cloudimg support.
