Overview
Ubuntu Server 26.04 LTS is the current long term support release of Ubuntu, the most widely deployed Linux server distribution. It pairs a modern kernel, toolchain and library stack with a package archive of tens of thousands of maintained packages, and Canonical provides five years of standard security maintenance for the release, to April 2031. That combination makes it the default foundation for almost any server workload: web and application servers, container hosts, databases, CI runners, data and machine learning tooling, or a plain general purpose Linux box. Because it is a long term support release, the API and library surface stays stable for years, so software built against it keeps working without a distribution upgrade partway through a project.
