AlmaLinux 8.10, a free enterprise Linux binary compatible with RHEL 8, hardened and patched for the cloud.
AlmaLinux is a community owned enterprise Linux distribution, produced by the AlmaLinux OS Foundation to be binary compatible with Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Version 8.10 is the final release of the RHEL 8 compatible series and continues to receive maintenance stream security backports, with the AlmaLinux 8 platform supported until 2029. It gives you a stable, long lived base for production servers, legacy applications and RHEL compatible workloads, with no subscription, no licence key and no Red Hat entitlement required.
This image is a clean, fully patched AlmaLinux 8.10 foundation to build your own services on.
The cloudimg image is a hardened AlmaLinux 8.10 base with every available security update applied at build time and unattended updates armed, so instances keep patching themselves. No credential is baked in: access is by the SSH key you choose at launch and the machine identity and SSH host keys are regenerated uniquely on every instance, so no two machines share a secret. SELinux stays in enforcing mode and root password login is disabled. A paired deployment guide tested against the exact image is included, and every instance is backed by 24/7 cloudimg support.
