Overview

Headscale is an open source, self hosted implementation of the Tailscale control server. It lets you run your own coordination server for a private mesh network, where machines register with pre-auth keys and then connect directly to each other over an encrypted overlay.

Why the cloudimg image

cloudimg delivers Headscale hardened, fully patched and preconfigured, with the control API served over TLS and a unique administrative API key generated on first boot so no shared secret ever ships in the image. Paired with a step by step deploy guide and backed by 24/7 support.

Common uses

  • Self hosted mesh VPN control server
  • Private coordination server for Tailscale clients
  • Secure connectivity between cloud, office and edge
