Overview

Oracle Linux is a free, enterprise grade Linux distribution built to be binary compatible with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10. Oracle provides the binaries, updates and errata at no cost and permits redistribution, so there is no subscription and no licence key to use, patch or resell it. Version 10.2 is a current minor release in the RHEL 10 family, which follows the RHEL 10 lifecycle with maintenance into the mid 2030s, so it stays supported for years.

This image is a clean, fully patched Oracle Linux 10.2 foundation to build your own services on. It keeps Oracle's two kernel lines, the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel that boots by default and the Red Hat Compatible Kernel, so you can choose either.

Why the cloudimg image

The cloudimg image is an Oracle Linux 10.2 base brought fully up to date at build time, with SELinux left in Enforcing mode and the root password locked. No credential is baked in: access is by the SSH key you choose at launch, so no two instances share a secret. Unattended updates are armed and proven on a real dry run before the image ships, so the machine keeps patching itself after launch. BaseOS and AppStream stay enabled so you keep a working update path, and 24/7 support is included.
