Overview

Actual Budget is a free, open source, local first personal finance application built around the envelope budgeting method. Give every unit of money a job across category groups, reconcile your accounts and see an honest, precise picture of your finances, with all of your financial data staying private on infrastructure you control.

It suits individuals and households that want a self hosted alternative to subscription budgeting services, with multi device sync through the bundled desktop and mobile apps, import from Actual, YNAB and nYNAB exports, and optional per file end to end encryption.

Why the cloudimg image

cloudimg delivers Actual Budget fully installed and configured as a self hosted sync server behind an nginx reverse proxy, so the bundled web interface is working the moment the instance boots. A unique server password is generated on first boot and stored in a root only file, so no default or shared login ships in the image. Your Actual database and budget files sit on a dedicated data disk you can snapshot and resize independently, and every deployment is paired with a step by step deploy guide and backed by 24/7 support.

Common uses

  • Private self hosted personal and household budgeting
  • Envelope budgeting synced across desktop and mobile devices
  • A self hosted alternative to subscription budgeting services with full data ownership
