Animal Shelter Manager is the long established open source management system for animal shelters, rescues and sanctuaries, keeping animals, intake, adoptions, medical records and people in one place.
Overview
Animal Shelter Manager (ASM3) is the open source management system that animal shelters, rescues and sanctuaries use to run their day to day operations from one web application. Staff and volunteers record every animal that comes through the door with its intake reason, species, breed and location on site, then track it through fostering, reservations, adoption or return to owner. Alongside the animal record sit medical and vaccination schedules, diary entries and tasks, waiting lists, lost and found matching, and the people side of the shelter: adopters, fosterers, volunteers, donors and veterinary contacts.
Built in reports and shelter views turn all of that into the numbers a shelter actually has to produce, from current occupancy to annual intake and outcome figures, and documents such as adoption paperwork can be generated straight from the record. It suits any organisation that has outgrown spreadsheets and wants one shared system for the whole shelter.
Why the cloudimg image
cloudimg delivers Animal Shelter Manager as a complete appliance with its database already installed and tuned on the same instance, so the web interface answers as soon as first boot finishes and there is no schema step to run by hand. Security is the reason to take this image rather than install it yourself: the upstream project ships a publicly documented default login and a guest account, and neither survives into this image. The guest account is removed outright, every remaining account is shipped locked, and the application refuses to start until first boot has generated a unique administrator password, a unique database password and a unique database superuser password into a root only file. A credential audit tool ships on the instance so you can prove at any time that no publicly known password works. The database listens only on the loopback interface, the base is fully patched with unattended security upgrades enabled, and every deployment is paired with a step by step deploy guide, backed by 24/7 cloudimg support.
