Overview

Belenios is an open source online voting system developed by INRIA that lets organisations run secret ballot elections with end to end verifiability. Voters cast encrypted ballots, anyone can check that their ballot was recorded, and the final tally can be independently verified against the public bulletin board, so results are trustworthy without having to trust the server. It supports classic and alternative voting methods and a clear separation of roles between the administrator, the credential authority and the trustees who share the decryption key.

Why the cloudimg image

cloudimg ships Belenios preconfigured on a hardened, fully patched Ubuntu 24.04 base behind nginx TLS so the admin interface and voting booth are ready right after boot. A unique administrator account, a per instance TLS certificate and the public election URL are generated on first boot with no default login shipped, and 24/7 support is included.

Common uses

  • Verifiable secret ballot elections
  • Board, association and committee votes
  • Independently auditable online voting
