Overview
Evolution CMS is an open source PHP content management system and application framework descended from the long standing MODX Evolution lineage, still under active development today. It imposes no fixed structure on a site: pages are called resources, and everything a template needs, from reusable snippets and chunks to template variables, is composed through a flexible tag based templating language. A full featured Manager admin dashboard gives a content team resource editing, a file manager, user roles and permissions, and a plugin and module system for extending the CMS without touching core code.
It suits developers who want a lightweight, unopinionated CMS they can shape entirely around a design rather than a rigid theme system, and teams who need a fast, template driven site with a capable admin interface for day to day content editing.
Why the cloudimg image
cloudimg ships Evolution CMS as a complete appliance rather than a set of packages you have to assemble yourself: nginx, PHP and a database are installed, tuned and wired together so the Manager dashboard and the public site are both answering requests within minutes of first boot. Security is designed in from the first boot: the image contains no database schema, no administrator account and no reachable install wizard of any kind. On first boot, before the web server is exposed at all, a one shot service runs the CMS's own non interactive installer to create the schema and a unique administrator account, proves the new credentials authenticate through the real Manager login form and that common default passwords are rejected, and only then deletes the install directory and opens the web server. The base is fully patched with unattended security updates enabled, and every image comes with a step by step deploy guide tested against the exact build and 24/7 cloudimg support.
