Overview

Frigate is an open source network video recorder for IP cameras. It runs object detection on every camera stream, so recordings and alerts are driven by what was actually seen, a person, a car, an animal, rather than by raw pixel motion. Detection runs locally and recordings stay on your own disk, so no footage is sent to a third party service. Cameras are connected by the operator after launch; nothing is preconfigured.

Why the cloudimg image

The cloudimg image pins the official upstream release by digest and ties it to the exact upstream commit. It ships with no cameras and no camera credential baked in, and no default password: a unique access credential and a unique application admin password are generated on every virtual machine at first boot. The application binds to loopback only and sits behind an authentication gate that refuses to start until it has proved an anonymous request is rejected. A full dependency licence inventory and the exact media library build configuration ship on the image, alongside a paired deployment guide and 24/7 support.

Common uses

  • Home and small site video surveillance with person and vehicle alerts
  • Property monitoring where footage must stay on infrastructure you control
  • Evaluating object detection and camera zones before investing in accelerator hardware
