Overview

GNU Health is a free and libre Hospital and Health Information System, and an official GNU project. It brings together electronic medical records, patient and health professional management, health institutions, appointments and clinical evaluations on top of the mature Tryton application framework, so a clinic, hospital or health programme can manage demographics and clinical information in one place. Clinicians and administrators work through a clean web client in the browser, backed by a robust PostgreSQL datastore, and the underlying framework is designed to be extended with the many optional GNU Health modules covering areas from laboratory and imaging to socioeconomics and disease notification.

It suits health centres, hospitals, research institutions and public health programmes that want a proven, community driven health information system they run themselves, keeping patient records on infrastructure they control rather than a third party service.

Why the cloudimg image

cloudimg delivers GNU Health fully installed and wired together: the application framework, the browser based web client, a reverse proxy and a PostgreSQL database are set up and tuned so the login page answers within minutes of launch, with no virtual environment, database or web server assembly to do by hand. The image is secure by default and ships with no patient data and no default login: no database is created in the image at all, and on the first boot of every instance a fresh, empty health database is initialised, the clinical modules are activated and the administrator account is created with a unique, randomly generated password written to a root only file. The application server is bound to the instance only and reached through the reverse proxy, the system is given swap headroom so it runs comfortably on a small instance, the base is fully patched with unattended security upgrades enabled, and every deployment is paired with a step by step deploy guide and backed by 24/7 cloudimg support.
