Overview

Kimai is a free, open source, self hosted time tracking application for teams and freelancers. Record working hours against customers, projects and activities with a live timer or manual entries, then turn those timesheets into invoices and exportable reports. It offers per user roles and teams, approval workflows, a full REST API, JSON, CSV and PDF exports, plus LDAP and SAML single sign on for centralised user management.

It suits consulting firms, agencies, freelancers and any organisation that wants a private, self hosted alternative to commercial time tracking platforms, keeping all of its timesheet and billing data on infrastructure it controls.

Why the cloudimg image

cloudimg delivers Kimai fully installed and configured on a PHP and nginx stack with a local MariaDB database, so the web interface is working the moment the instance boots, with the database schema already migrated. On the first boot of every instance a one shot service generates a fresh application secret, rotates the database password and creates a unique administrator login, writing it to a file only the root user can read, so no shared or default credential ships in the image. The database and the application tree each sit on their own dedicated data disk you can snapshot and resize independently, and every deployment is paired with a step by step deploy guide and backed by 24/7 support.

Common uses

  • Private self hosted time tracking for consulting firms and agencies
  • Billable hours and invoice generation for freelancers and teams
