Overview

OCS Inventory NG is an open source IT asset management platform that discovers and inventories the hardware and software across an entire estate. Lightweight agents installed on Windows, Linux, macOS, Android and BSD machines report their hardware, installed software, running services and configuration detail to a central server, which keeps an always current picture of every machine without any manual stocktaking.

From one web console you can search and group the estate, track software licences and CVE exposure, discover unknown devices on the network with IpDiscover, inventory SNMP devices such as printers and switches, and push software deployment packages out to managed machines. It suits any team that needs to know what it owns, what is installed on it and what needs attention, without handing that inventory to a third party service.

Why the cloudimg image

cloudimg delivers OCS Inventory NG fully patched on a hardened Ubuntu 24.04 base, with both halves of the product already installed and wired together: the communication server that agents report to, and the web console that reads the results. The shell installer, the web database installation and the schema upgrade are all completed and locked away, so the console answers the moment the instance boots. A unique database password and a unique console administrator password are generated on first boot and written to a root only file, so the well known default administrator account a manual installation leaves behind is never present. The inventory database and the variable tree holding deployment packages, SNMP data and network discovery results live on a dedicated data disk kept separate from the operating system disk, and every deployment is paired with a step by step deploy guide and backed by 24/7 cloudimg support.
