Overview

CMDBuild is an open source Configuration Management Database used by IT and facilities teams to manage the assets and services of an infrastructure. It lets you model configuration items and the relationships between them, track hardware and software inventory, run IT service management and workflow processes, build dashboards and reports, and integrate with other systems through a REST API. This image delivers the CMDBuild READY2USE data model, a full ready to use asset and service management model, installed and configured as a production application on Apache Tomcat with a PostgreSQL database.

Why the cloudimg image

The cloudimg image ships CMDBuild hardened from the first boot. The web interface binds to loopback behind nginx, systemd supervises Tomcat, PostgreSQL and nginx, and a first boot process generates a unique administrator password and a unique database password on every launch so no shared or default credential is ever reachable. The PostgreSQL data directory sits on its own dedicated, independently resizable data volume, a paired deploy guide walks through every step, and 24/7 cloudimg support stands behind it.

Common uses

  • Build a configuration management database of your servers, network devices, software and their relationships
  • Track hardware and software assets, locations, suppliers and contracts in one system
  • Run IT service management processes such as incident, request, change and problem management

Key features

  • Production-ready in minutes: CMDBuild READY2USE is fully installed on Apache Tomcat with the OpenJDK 17 JRE, PostgreSQL and nginx, managed by systemd with automatic restart on failure. No manual setup and no graphical wizard to run - launch the image and your self-hosted CMDB and asset management platform is live behind a reverse proxy, hardened and ready to run from day one.
  • Secure by default with per-instance credentials: The web interface binds to loopback behind nginx and enforces authentication. A first-boot process generates a unique administrator password and a unique database password on every launch and rotates the shipped default admin login so it never works, storing the real password in a root-only file. No shared or default credentials ever ship in the image.
  • Full CMDB with 24/7 expert support: Manage assets and services, model configuration items and their relationships, run IT service management processes, build dashboards and reports, and integrate through the REST API. cloudimg engineers provide 24/7 support by email and live chat with a one-hour average response for critical issues, covering deployment, data-model configuration, database tuning and scaling.

Description

This is a repackaged open source software product wherein additional charges apply for cloudimg support services.

Overview

CMDBuild is an open source Configuration Management Database used by IT and facilities teams to manage the assets and services of an infrastructure. Model configuration items and their relationships, track hardware and software inventory, run IT service management and workflow processes, build reports and dashboards, and integrate with other systems through a REST API. This image delivers the CMDBuild READY2USE data model fully installed and configured as a production application, so you have a complete asset and service management platform running within minutes of launch, with full ownership of your data.

Why This Image Over DIY or Other Images

Unlike a manual install or a generic community image, this image ships production-hardened from the start. The application binds to loopback behind nginx, so the web interface is never exposed with a default login. Systemd manages Tomcat, PostgreSQL and nginx, restarting them on failure. A secure first-boot process generates a unique administrator password and a unique database password per instance, so there are no shared or default passwords to rotate. And 24/7 cloudimg support means you have engineers available for deployment, tuning and troubleshooting, something unsupported community images cannot offer.

Application Stack

  • CMDBuild READY2USE deployed on Apache Tomcat with the OpenJDK 17 JRE behind nginx on port 80
  • PostgreSQL with the PostGIS extension as the application database on loopback only, on a dedicated data volume
  • Systemd service management with automatic restart on failure
  • Secure first-boot credential generation unique to each instance

Asset and Service Management

The READY2USE data model gives you a ready-made configuration management database: manage hardware and software assets, locations, contacts and suppliers, model relationships between configuration items, run service and workflow processes, and follow everything through dashboards and reports. Connect CMDBuild to your other systems through its REST API to keep your inventory in step with the rest of your tooling.

Secure First Boot

On the first boot a one-shot service generates a fresh PostgreSQL role password and a fresh administrator password, both unique to that instance, before the public web interface is started. The shipped default admin login is rotated so it no longer works. The administrator password is written to a file only the root user can read. No shared or default credentials ship in the image.

Ready To Use

The CMDBuild web interface is served on port 80 through nginx. Sign in with the generated administrator credentials to explore the asset classes, model your configuration items, run processes and invite your team. The REST API is available on the same port for integration with your other systems.

cloudimg Support

24/7 technical support by email and live chat. Our engineers help with deployment, data-model configuration, the REST API, workflow and process setup, user management, database tuning, TLS and scaling. Critical issues receive a one-hour average response.
