Overview

Apache OFBiz is a comprehensive open-source enterprise automation suite. Under one application it brings together accounting, order management, a product catalog and e-commerce store, customer and party relationship management, inventory and warehouse management, and manufacturing, all sharing a single data model. This image delivers Apache OFBiz fully installed and running behind an nginx reverse proxy, so a complete business back office is serving within minutes of launch.

Application Stack

OFBiz runs as a self-contained Java application: an embedded servlet container serves the many OFBiz web applications, and an embedded Apache Derby database holds the business data. A dedicated unprivileged service account owns the installation, systemd starts it on boot and restarts it on failure, and nginx fronts the application on port 80. The database, search indexes and runtime data live on a dedicated data disk so they are independently resizable and separate from the operating system disk.

Business Applications

Manage the general ledger, invoices and payments in Accounting; capture and fulfil sales and purchase orders in Order Manager; build a product catalog and run a storefront in Catalog and the e-commerce app; track customers, contacts and organizations in Party Manager; and administer the whole system through the built-in webtools console. The applications share one party, product and accounting model, so data entered once flows through the suite.

Secure First Boot

On the first boot of your instance a one-shot service generates a fresh administrator password, unique to that instance, applies it to the OFBiz admin account before the web interface is reachable, and writes it to a file only the root user can read. The well-known default credentials that ship with the upstream software are rotated away and the seeded demonstration logins are disabled, so no shared or default credentials remain usable.

Ready To Use

Open the web UI in your browser, read the generated credentials, sign in as admin, and start working in Accounting, Catalog, Order Manager or Party Manager straight away. A built-in health endpoint answers on the reverse proxy for load-balancer and uptime checks. The data tier lives on a dedicated, independently resizable data disk.
