Overview

SRS, the Simple Realtime Server, is a fast, open source live streaming and real time media server. This image runs the official SRS server behind nginx with a unique admin password generated on first boot, ingesting RTMP, SRT and WebRTC and delivering HLS, HTTP FLV and WebRTC, so a working streaming server is live within minutes of launch. A bundled web console and player let you watch and manage streams from your browser. Backed by 24/7 cloudimg support.

Why the cloudimg image

This image arrives installed, configured and hardened, so there is no manual setup before you can use it. It is built on a patched base, runs with credentials generated uniquely for your instance on first boot, and passes an automated health check before every release. Every deployment is backed by 24/7 support from cloudimg engineers.

Key features

  • Fast, open source live streaming and real time media server preinstalled behind nginx: ingest over RTMP, SRT and WebRTC and deliver the same stream as RTMP, HLS, HTTP FLV and WebRTC, with a bundled web console, test player and JSON HTTP API
  • Runs the official SRS server as a systemd managed container with host networking so RTMP and WebRTC media ports bind directly for correct low latency delivery, with live media output on a dedicated independently resizable data disk
  • Hardened first boot generates a fresh admin password on every instance, stored in a file only the root user can read, protecting the console and API, with the public address resolved automatically for WebRTC and 24/7 support from cloudimg

Description

This is a repackaged open source software product wherein additional charges apply for cloudimg support services.

Overview

SRS, the Simple Realtime Server, is a free, open source, high efficiency live streaming and real time media server. Publishers such as OBS Studio, ffmpeg, hardware encoders and mobile apps push a live feed over RTMP, SRT or WebRTC, and SRS delivers it in real time as RTMP, HLS, HTTP FLV and WebRTC for low latency playback in browsers and native players. This image delivers SRS fully installed and running behind an nginx reverse proxy, with a bundled web console and test player, so a working streaming server is serving within minutes of launch. The current release available is SRS 6.0.

Application Stack

The official SRS server runs as a container under systemd with host networking so the RTMP and WebRTC media ports bind directly for correct low latency delivery. nginx serves the console, player and stream output on port 80 and reverse proxies the SRS HTTP API, protected by HTTP Basic authentication. The RTMP ingest port and the WebRTC media port are exposed directly. A health endpoint answers without authentication for load balancer and uptime checks.

Ingest and Deliver Any Way

Ingest live video over RTMP, SRT or WebRTC and deliver the same stream simultaneously as RTMP, HLS, HTTP FLV and WebRTC. Point a browser at the bundled console to see live streams, connected clients and server statistics, and use the built in player to watch a stream end to end. A JSON HTTP API reports streams, clients, versions and summaries for automation and monitoring.

Secure First Boot

On the first boot of your instance a one shot service generates a fresh admin password, unique to that instance, that protects the web console and the HTTP API, and records it in a file only the root user can read. No shared or default credentials ship in the image. The instance public address is resolved automatically so WebRTC connectivity works out of the box.

Ready To Use

Retrieve the generated password, open the console in your browser and publish a test stream with any RTMP encoder to watch it play back over HLS, HTTP FLV or WebRTC. The live media output lives on a dedicated, independently resizable data disk. The base operating system is fully patched with automatic security updates enabled.

cloudimg Support

24/7 technical support by email and chat. Help with deployment, HTTPS and reverse proxy configuration, RTMP, SRT and WebRTC publishing, HLS and low latency tuning, recording, storage and upgrade planning.

Use Cases

A self hosted live streaming server for RTMP ingest with HLS, HTTP FLV and WebRTC playback inside your own cloud account. A low latency WebRTC and SRT media server for interactive video. A broadcast origin for live events, webcasts and video platforms.
