Medama is a self-hostable, privacy-focused website analytics platform that gives you clear, real-time insight into your website traffic without cookies, without logging IP addresses and without any additional visitor identifiers. Because it collects no personal data by design, it helps you stay compliant with GDPR, PECR and similar privacy regulations while still answering the questions that matter: which pages are popular, where visitors come from, which referrers and campaigns drive traffic, and how your audience breaks down by browser, operating system, device and country.

Visitors are measured with a lightweight tracker script of less than one kilobyte that loads almost instantly and never slows your pages down. The analytics dashboard is a single, self-contained application that shows live and historical statistics for every website you add, and an OpenAPI-based server makes it straightforward to integrate the data into your own tools and reporting.

This image delivers Medama fully installed and reverse proxied behind nginx, so a working analytics server is running within minutes of launch, with no manual package installation, no dependency troubleshooting and no proxy configuration required. It ships as a single self-contained binary with two embedded databases, so it stays lightweight, starts instantly and runs comfortably on a small instance, and systemd manages the service for automatic restarts and clean logging.

Unlike a bare deployment, the image is configured to be secure by default. Medama runs behind an nginx reverse proxy that is ready for your TLS certificate, and the internal service port is not exposed to the internet by the default security group. Crucially, there is no shared default password: a unique administrator credential is generated automatically on first boot, stored in a root-only file on the instance, and is different on every machine you launch, so no secret is ever baked into the image. The dashboard requires a localhost or HTTPS connection to sign in, which the accompanying guide walks you through using a simple SSH tunnel or your own domain.
